ATHEX Group is seeking a Junior Information Security Engineer to join its Information Security Division, with a primary focus on Cyber Security Operations.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates at the early stages of their cyber security career who are eager to gain hands-on exposure to enterprise-grade security platforms and participation in real-life incident response and security testing activities, while gaining experience in a regulated Fintech environment with high security standards, with structured on-the-job training and continuous mentoring from senior security professionals.
The role will involve close collaboration with the rest of the members of the Information Security Team and will report to the Chief Information Security Officer/Head of the Division.
Key Accountabilities
Security Operations (Blue Team)
· Support the operation, monitoring, and basic configuration of security platforms such as SIEM, EDR, PAM, WAF, DLP, AV, Email Security, VA Scanners, IAM/Directory Services
· Monitor security alerts and events, perform first-level triage, and escalate incidents when required
· Assist in cyber security incident response activities, including investigation, containment, and recovery
· Support log collection, validation, and forwarding from IT and business systems to central security platforms
· Assist in maintaining detection rules, dashboards, and reporting.
Security Testing & Red Team Support
· Assist in vulnerability assessments, OWASP testing, internal penetration tests, and system hardening reviews
· Support external penetration testers and auditors during security assessments
· Participate in Purple Team activities, helping improve detection and response based on testing results.
Security Engineering & Integration
· Support IT teams (DEV, OPS, ADM) in integrating applications and infrastructure with security controls
· Assist in documenting and maintaining security configurations and data flows.
Awareness, Threat Intelligence & Exercises
· Support threat intelligence tracking and vulnerability follow-up
· Participate in cyber security exercises, simulations, and drills
· Contribute to security awareness activities and internal knowledge sharing.
Knowledge and experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
Master’s degree in information security / cyber security is a plus
0–2 years of experience in Information Security, IT Security, SOC, or related field.
Skills & Competences
Basic understanding of:
Networking (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S),
Operating systems (Windows, Linux),
Core security concepts (threats, vulnerabilities, logging, malware),
Familiarity with ISO/IEC 27001, NIS2, DORA, GDPR is a plus
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies
Excellent communication skills in Greek and English
Proactive, motivated, and a strong team player
Fulfilled military obligations (for men).
